A former Attorney-General has lauded John Mahama's running mate Prof Naana Opoku-Agyemang, arguing she has enough experience to serve as Vice President of Ghana.
Betty Mould-Iddrisu said her service as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast has equipped the veteran educationist with enough management skills.
According to her, Prof Naana Opoku-Agyemang achieved a lot and had the opportunity to exercise discretion during her tenure, skills that would help her serve as a government’s second-in-command.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, Tuesday, Mrs Mould-Iddrisu argued that Prof. Naana Opoku-Agyemang, who also served as Education Minister had the experience of “juggling the needs of students and teachers with that of the development needs of the country,” an experience she touted.
Addressing critics of Mr Mahama's running mate, Mould-Iddrisu, who served as Education Minister herself, said it is easy to criticise but Prof Naana Opoku-Agyemang has really excelled.
She cited the reduction of teacher absenteeism which she said was in excess of 20 percent before Prof. Opoku-Agyemang took over to seven percent when she was exiting.
Another achievement touted by Mrs Mould-iddrisu was the upgrading of Teacher Training Colleges to Colleges of Education.
Also, some polytechnics across the country were upgraded to Technical Universities when Prof. Opoku-Agyemang was at the helm of the Education Ministry, she noted.
“Handling the Ministry of Education for four years gives her the all-round management experience she needed in order to handle a large organisation, coupled with her intellectual background…and also management of the university,” she said.
