Reggae and dancehall icon Samini is making a bold statement of roots and reinvention with his eighth studio album, ORIGIN8A, pronounced Originator. The title is deeply intentional and symbolic, reflecting his journey, influence, and enduring relevance in African music.
The album will be officially launched at the 4th edition of the Samini Xperience Concert on 24 December 2025 at Laboma Beach, setting the stage for what promises to be a landmark moment in his career.
At the heart of ORIGIN8A is a clear concept. The stylised use of the numeral 8 represents origin, rebirth, and continuity, while also marking Samini’s eighth studio album.
The project features 16 tracks, a deliberate choice derived from multiplying his two decades in music by eight albums, resulting in a number that is both symbolic and deeply personal.
The album title also serves as a catalogue of firsts that have earned Samini the Originator label over the years.
- He was the first Ghanaian artist to win a MOBO Award.
- The first reggae and dancehall act from Ghana to secure major corporate endorsements
- The first to successfully host a self-titled music festival, SAMINIFEST.
- Samini also gave identity to Ghana’s unique blend of reggae and dancehall, popularised as African Dancehall.
- He was the first to start and build one of the country’s most loyal fan communities, the High Grade Family.
These milestones are woven into the fabric of ORIGIN8A as a record that honours influence, impact, and trailblazing achievements.
Visually, the album leans heavily into the mystique of the number 8.
The artwork features an 8 ball, sound waves, and pulse waves, together expressing a simple yet profound idea: music is mysterious, and music makes the heart beat.

The symbolism runs deep. Across cultures and belief systems, the number 8 represents new beginnings, creation, life, a complete octave in music, luck, enlightenment, and infinity when laid on its side.
The 8 ball itself adds a playful layer, symbolising destiny, risk, and foresight. Altogether, the number embodies power, balance, continuity, and good fortune.
Musically, ORIGIN8A arrives on the heels of Chaana, the lead single featuring the Soweto Gospel Choir, which has already gained recognition as a Pan-African anthem.
Both the song and the album sit comfortably within Samini’s signature space where reggae, dancehall, and Afro pop intersect, delivered with the authenticity that has kept him relevant across generations.
The project is also backed by a major promotional partnership aimed at amplifying its global reach.
ORIGIN8A promises notable guest appearances and exciting surprises. Samini has confirmed features from some of his protégés and collaborators, including Stonebwoy, Mugeez, Kofi Kinaata, and Kaakie, while hinting at other exclusive appearances.
Fans can expect Samini’s trademark live energy, layered production, and compelling storytelling that mirrors both his personal journey and the broader African narrative.
The album launch at Laboma Beach is positioned as more than just a concert. It is a moment of arrival for Samini, inviting audiences to witness a major career milestone and experience new music in the live setting that has long been his strongest suit.
With its 16 tracks, rich symbolism, and strong ties to Samini’s legacy, ORIGIN8A reads as both a celebration and a challenge. It is a reminder of where the sound came from and a call to keep pushing it forward.
