Despite the demise of the New Patriotic Party in the just ended general elections, and the subsequent inauguration of the new President of Ghana, supporters in the Ashanti Regional capital continue to sing the praises of the former government and the flag-bearer of the NPP, Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo.
Residents in the metropolis continue to show their loyalty and sup¬port for the NPP in spite of the defeat suffered in the hands of their bitterest rivals, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the December 2008 polls.
The feeling here and elsewhere is Nana Addo embodies the spirit of the elephant and the party, and signals to those nursing ambitions to compete with the flag-bearer, in the face of the widespread condemnation of a large number of contenders for the party's flag-bearership contest in 2007.
Many residents still trade in the party's paraphernalia and other merchandise of the party's flag bearer, while others, despite the mockery and derision defiantly wear T-shirts bearing the portraits of Nana Akufo-Addo and Dr.Mahamadu Bawumia.
The campaign hit songs composed by Daddy Lumba and Kwabena Kwabena have also dominated play in cassette shops and spots, while supporters gladly dance to the tune of the music.
Residents unwavering loyalty and affection for the NPP reached its crescendo last Wednesday during the official inauguration of the new President Prof. John Evans Atta Mills, where supporters ignored the historic occasion for their businesses.
Others also did the unthinkable thing when they took to the street, displaying the portrait of the NPP flag-bearer claiming they were doing their own inauguration, while others also celebrated the demeanour of President John Atta Mills during his official inauguration last Wednesday.
It looks like many residents have still not woken up to the reality of Attah Mills presidency, and the controversial way the NPP lost power to the NDC.
