The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) says it has concluded its investigation into suspected corruption and corruption-related offences involving Charles Adu Boahen, a former Minister of State at the Finance Ministry.
According to the OSP, while Mr Adu Boahen engaged in influence peddling, it is not a corruption-related offence which falls directly under the mandate of its office.
In a press statement issued by the OSP detailing its findings and sighted by JoyNews, the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng said the allegations against the government official can be handled by the other government agencies.
Mr Agyebeng further stressed that "the investigation may be re-opened should circumstances and further facts" come to light.
The OSP also commended the President for the referral of the case, and Tiger Eye P.I. led by Anas Aremeyaw Anas for conducting the sting operation in respect of suspected corruption and corruption-related offences involving Mr. Adu Boahen, and for filing a complaint with his office.
Background
On November 14, 2022, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo requested the OSP to investigate some allegations against Mr Adu Boahen contained in an investigative documentary titled ‘Galamsey Economy’ produced by investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas.
According to Tiger Eye PI investigations, Mr Boahen told undercover journalists that Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia could be paid $200,000 as an appearance fee for investors.
He was subsequently dismissed by the President.
In a statement on November 16, 2022, the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, said his office has promptly commenced an investigation into the actions of Mr Adu Boahen and any other implicated person and will publish its findings after a thorough investigation.
