The Osu Stand of the Ohene Djan Sports Stadium, Accra has reached its completion point as predicted by the contractors – Micheleti and Company Ghana Limited.Micheleti, the main contractors working on the project predicted three weeks ago the completion of the Osu Stand of the Ohene Djan Sports Stadium in Accra.A visit to the site by the GNA Sports on Thursday, saw the workers putting finishing touches to the stand thus allaying doubts of completion of the stadium on schedule ahead of the 2008 Nations Cup to be hosted by Ghana. Jimmy Castagna, Technical Director of Micheleti and Co. Ghana Limited, told the GNA Sports that the company is well within schedule and will get the job executed and ready for the competition.The Osu Stand when completed will have a corporate box in between the lower and upper sections of the stand.There are to be eight of the corporate boxes which are to be glassed as ‘special’ venues for the patrons who will be separated from other spectators in the stadium.According to the contractors, the corporate boxes which will be fitted with kitchen-nets can each house 35 of the patrons. The facility will be made available to staff of corporate organisations at special rates.The contractors are currently erecting steel bars on the sub-structure at the Southern Stand end of the stadium.Castagna said that work on the Southern Stand will be completed by the close of June, adding that his outfit is set to beat the October 31, deadline.When asked whether the project will be affected by the rainy season, Castagna said “We have made adequate preparations for it and I’m sure our work will not be affected by the rains when they set in”.He said that the earlier rains this year had a minor effect on the works as they lost two working days. He stated: “With the completion of the drainage system at the stadium, work will proceed even with the rains”.Castagna gave the assurance to all Ghanaians that the stadium will be ready for use come January 2008 to ensure a successful competition under a serene atmosphere for all spectators.Source: GNA
