Ghana Football Association President Kurt Okraku has reaffirmed Otto Addo’s position as head coach of the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, adding that the gaffer will lead the team “as a proud Ghanaian.”
The Black Stars endured a poor AFCON qualifying campaign - going winless in six games and missing out on next year’s tournament in Morocco - but bounced back impressively with five wins in their final six World Cup qualifiers to secure a fifth appearance at the global showpiece.
The feat also makes Addo the first Ghanaian to qualify the team for consecutive World Cups after doing so for the 2022 edition.
“Otto qualified Ghana in a grand style to the upcoming World Cup and Otto will lead Ghana as a proud Ghanaian to the World Cup,” Kurt told Asempa FM.
“Otto has a contract with the FA and we will respect the contract. He is not perfect, and no coach is perfect, neither is Kurt Okraku perfect. For me, he’s delivered what we asked of him, [and] he has done it in a grand style.
"For people to all of a sudden talk about the future of a coach that has qualified you to the Mundial, we are kidding in this country.”
Otto Addo is expected to remain in charge of the Black Stars as they embark on an Asian tour in November, where they will play friendly matches against Japan and South Korea.
The draw for the 2026 FIFA World Cup will take place on December 5 in Washington, where Ghana will discover their group-stage opponents.
