Nana Aflame Kotuku Baugh I, Chief of Sanso, has said the leadership style of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, has given a new look to the chieftaincy institution as a developmental tool in modern society.
“It is indeed important for all chiefs to follow the footsteps of Otumfuo to bring development to their traditional areas,” he said.
Nana Baugh made the observation when he conducted newsmen round a modern palace he was constructing for the people of Sanso near Obuasi.
The project, when completed would have a fully fitted Internet facility and a museum.
The 500,000-Ghana-cedi palace now at the roofing stage has two court yards, two meeting rooms, offices and store rooms, queenmother’s apartment and a residential area for the chief.
The Sansohene said he was inspired by the development initiatives of the Asantehene to embark on the project, which would be the first of its kind in the Adansi area.
He pointed out that since Otumfuo Osei Tutu assumed the kingship of the Asante Kingdom, he had made infrastructural and other human development his major priority which should be emulated by all.
“I am inspired by Otumfuo’s initiative hence this project to honour the people of Sanso, Adansi and Asanteman,” Nana Bawuah stressed.
He said a palace where the traditional authority of a chief radiated should be an ideal one, since such palaces play major role in the effective administration of the traditional rule of the people.
Nana Bawuah appealed to chiefs to shift emphasis from disputes and litigations and lead their people for development and progress, and commended all those whose contributions have helped him to initiate the project.
