The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has fined 11 sub-chiefs for illegally allocating lands within the catchment area of the Owabi Dam belonging the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) in the Kumasi Metropolis.
The sub-chiefs, who have oversight responsibility for the area, were given seven days to pay 22 sheep.
They are the Otumfuo Somesisihene, Baamuhene, Soweduhene, Ohwimhene, Bokankyehene and Kokosohene.
The others are Atafoahene, Nyankyereneasehene, Abrepokesehene, Apredehene and Atene Akotenghene.
At the traditional court sitting presided over by Hiahene, Oheneba Agyemang Atweneboanna on behalf of the Asantehene last Tuesday, the chiefs were ordered to halt all ongoing developments in the catchment area of the Owabi Dam.
The Asantehene indicated that, he would soon visit the site together with officials of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly and the GWCL to assess the situation and take further action on the matter.
