Over two hundred students of Saint Michael Senior High School at Ahenkro in the Afigya- Kwabre District of the Ashanti Region have no dormitories.
Both male and female are housed separately in two classrooms which were converted into residential accommodation three years ago.
Authorities have had to rely on corporate support to finding solutions to the many challenges, including non-availability of electricity, confronting the school.
Saint Michael Senior High School was established in 2011 as Catholic community institution under the Ghana Education Service.
Authorities and students face serious challenges with infrastructure. No dormitories, library, clinic or dispensary. The least talked about a school vehicle the better.
The accommodation situation is very acute due to congestion as students put up in classroom after they had been moved out of a rented hostel facility.
The proximity of the two classrooms to each other gives authorities cause for worry about the risk of immorality.
The students say they are compelled to cope with the situation because they have no other option.
Headmaster of the school, Reverend Father Clement Augustine Owusu, says school authorities have had to dig their pockets to take students to hospital when they fall sick.
Meanwhile, Sekyere Rural Bank is extending support to the school with a donation of one hundred bags of cement for a proposed dormitory block project.
Chief Executive Officer of the bank, Kwadwo Obese Antwi is believes it must become the responsibility of corporate organizations to assist such institutions.
