Thousands of crates of eggs were sold as of 12 pm on Friday at the ongoing Multimedia Group X’mas Egg Market, according to the Greater Accra Poultry Farmers Association (GAPFA).
The two-day initiative, held at the Joy FM car park, is jointly organised by The Multimedia Group Limited (MGL) and the Greater Accra Poultry Farmers Association.
It aims at addressing the persistent egg glut confronting local poultry farmers while offering consumers access to eggs and poultry at reduced prices.
Confirming the figures to Joy Business, GAPFA said the strong patronage recorded reflects the growing demand for affordable protein during the festive season, as well as the benefits of linking farmers directly to consumers.
Consumers who spoke to Joy Business expressed satisfaction with the initiative, describing it as timely and impactful, especially amid rising living costs ahead of the Christmas festivities.
Others noted that the quality of the eggs and poultry products, coupled with the reduced prices, encouraged them to buy in larger quantities for household consumption.
Beyond consumer benefits, the X’mas Egg Market is also providing much-needed relief to poultry farmers who have been grappling with excess egg supply, falling prices, and rising production costs in recent months.
The market continues tomorrow, with expectations that sales volumes will further increase as more consumers take advantage of the festive-season price reductions.
