The 35 year-old Nigerian who claimed ownership of the ammunition that was impounded by the police at Bawku will be prosecuted.Musah Lasisi claimed ownership of the ammunitions which were discovered by policemen at the Binduri Barrier in commercial Benz bus.Following investigations by the police, Lasisi was arrested and he told the police the ammunition was destined for Benin.Speaking to Joy News, the Upper East Regional crime officer, Chief Superintendent Victor Seth Agbenu, said evidence gathered during interrogation were enough to prosecute Lasisi.Lasisi will be charged with possession of ammunition without lawful excuse. The suspect told the police that the driver of the bus and his two mates who were arrested by the police did not know the content of the boxes in which the ammunitions were concealed.Based on that, Chief Supt Agbenu said the driver and his mates would be granted bail while investigations continue to ascertain the veracity of Lasisi’s claim. The ammunitions were intercepted during routine search by security agencies necessitated by a chieftaincy dispute that has claimed lives and property in Bawku in the Upper East Region. The Bawku municipality and its surrounding areas are under curfew imposed by the government following the violent clashes.
