The police have formally charged the Executive Chairman of Tobinco Pharmaceuticals Company (Tobinco) Limited, Samuel Tobin with obstructing police officers from performing their lawful duty.
Director of Communications of the Company, Peter Tobin, confirmed on 'Bawdam' on Adom TV Tuesday, his boss has been ordered to report at the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) later in the day, with his pharmacist for further investigations.
Mr. Tobin was arrested on Monday by the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) and kept at the Nima Divisional Police Command. He was later released on bail after his lawyers reportedly signed a bond of Ghs1 million.
Tobinco has been accused by the Food and Drugs Authority of allegedly importing fake drugs into the country. An attempt by the security agencies to lock up one of the company's warehouses on the Spintex Road in Accra, was resisted by the workers.
Management of the pharmaceutical giant vehemently denied the allegation but conceded the G-Sunate plus it imported into the country was yet to be clinically tested on humans and was yet to be registered by the Regulator.
Mr. Tobin is expected to return to the Nima police station as investigations continue.
