A 42-year-old Sales Manager, Mr Sylvester Owusu-Afriyie was on Tuesday confirmed as the Municipal Chief Executive for Weija and sworn in.Mr David Nii Abbossey Braide, Assembly member for Mallam Electoral Area was also elected Presiding Member (PM) for the Municipality.
Mr Owusu-Afiriyie pooled 17 out of the 21 votes cast, while Mr Braide won after a heated contest.
During the election of the PM, Mr Sylvanus Martey, Government appointee for Obuom Electoral Area had to step down after two unsuccessful successive balloting when the two-thirds majority required to elect the PM was not met and it was the third round that elected Mr Braide, who polled 16 against 5.
The first and second rounds of the PM elections recorded same results, 12 for Braide and nine for Martey.
Mr Owusu-Afiriyie in his acceptance speech, called for the support of all assembly members for the development of the Municipality.
He said although the task given him was challenging, he would commit himself to hard work, adding; "under my administration, no laziness would be tolerated".
He pledged to address the sanitation problem, which remained a major challenge in the area and thanked the Government, assembly members and all who helped to get him confirmed.Source: GNA
