Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom has won the contest and has been declared the flag bearer of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP) for election 2008.
In a keenly contested election clouded by allegations and counter allegations of monetary influence and impropriety at the Party’s Delegates’ Congress which took place at the Great Hall of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi over three days from Friday 14th to Monday 17th December, 2007, Dr. Nduom came up tops with a wide margin of votes.
Results declared by the Electoral Commission, show that Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom got 1,067 votes, followed by, Prof. Agyeman Badu Akosa, 644 votes, Mr. George Aguddey got 139 votes, , Kwaku Osafo got 48 votes, Mr. Bright Akwetey, 37 votes and Mr. Asante Akufo had 11 votes.
Dr. Nduom garnered 53.8% of valid votes cast and has therefore been declared the winner by the electoral commission.
Wild jubilations greeted the announcement.
In his acceptance speech, Dr. Nduom promised to work with his losing opponents.
He also revealed that Alhaji Asumah Bandah, the shipping magnate and Gen. Emmanuel Erskine, presidential candidate of the Peoples Heritage Party (PHP), another Nkrumaist party in the 1992 elections and a former Commander of the UN force in Lebanon would both be joining the CPP campaign
Dr. Edmond Delle has lost the chairmanship to Mr. Lardi Nylander, and Mr. Ivor Greenstreet is the new General Secretary.
Mr. Mike Eghan is the National Treasurer, James Kwamena Bomfeh is the Youth Organiser and Hajia Hamdatu has been elected Women's Organiser.
