The Public Accounts Committee of Parliament (PAC) has said it will summon the Minister for Presidential Affairs, Mr Kwadzo Mpiani to account for money approved for the Ghana @ 50 celebrations.
It said the Minister needed to explain to the committee how the money spent and what it was spent on.
A member pf the PAC, Mr. Enoch Teye Mensah told Joy News that the committee was concerned with complaints from contractors that they had not been paid for work done during the celebration.
Mr Mensah said he is considering filling an urgent question in the House to compel Mr. Mpiani to come and account to the committee.
He said the committee will also call for a special audit of the Ghana@50 Secretariat regarding how much donations were received and how the money was spent.
The government said apart from the $ 20 million dollars approved by Parliament, a number of organisations also donated various sums of money towards the anniversary celebrations.
Parliament approved $ 20 million for the celebrations last year.
Mr. Mpiani who is also the Chief of Staff said last year told Parliament's Finance Committee that $5.9 million of the amount was used to purchase cars as part of preparation for the event.
Another $ 7.8 million he stated was spent on infrastructure.
But Mr. E. T. Mensah, who is also the Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram said there was little to show in terms of infrastructure.
He argued much more could have been done with that amount.
