The parents of a 14-year old pupil forced out of school as a result of a paralyses he suffered when a collapsing school block fell on him, are calling on the government for support for seek medication for him.
Kwadjo Njofuni of Kpanda English and Arab school in the Krachi District of the Volta Region is paralysed in both legs and also has his spine broken since 2008 when he suffered the accident.
He was initially transferred from Krachi to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital for treatment but due to financial constraints the parents failed to continue medication. Now bed-ridden, Kwadjo has developed bed sore which has spread all over his body.
According to the father of the child, Mr. Waja Njofuni, a peasant farmer, he was unable to raise money to continue treatment at both the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital and the Krachi District Hospital and had to resort to local medication.
Mr. Njofuni said sometime last year, media reports on the plight of his son attracted some support from well-meaning Ghanaians but the support came very late in the day, adding that he has lost all his investment including his farm.
The Krachi West District Director of Health, Dr Felix Doh said Kwadjo Njofuni initially developed a spinal injury because of the accident and explained that the inability of the parents to seek medical attention on time has caused the paralyses in both legs.
