The Acting Eastern Regional Director of Education, Ms. Felicia Duku has urged parents to educate their handicapped children since they had the ability to perform as other children.
She said such children rather needed exposure to help them develop their talents and potential because they were already disadvantaged.

As part of the 50th anniversary, the Regional Library organized a series of competitions for schools in the municipality and the unit School for the Deaf was the only handicapped school that took part in the competition.
Ms Duku thanked the Library Board for their contribution towards quality education in the area and urged students to take advantage of the library to read and acquire knowledge for themselves. She told the students that without the habit of reading, academic laurels could not be achieved and they could end up becoming educated illiterate.
