The head of Ghana's human rights body has expressed reservations about President's decision in calling back Dr. Richard Anane to the Transportation Ministry. Ms. Anna Bossman, Acting Commissioner of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), says the re-nomination of Dr. Anane will be sending a wrong signal with respect to the fight against corruption and also the promotion of integrity within the public service. It will also weaken the perception that the country is projecting with regard to anti-corruption and with regard to the promotion of integrity. Ms. Anna Bossman was speaking on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" programme hosted by Kwami Sefa Kayi. She cautioned that Ghana must realise that not only the actors such as politicians, institutions and others are in this arena but also the youth are watching what is going on closely the signals of such decisions. She indicated that Dr. Anane's fate is in the hands of the Appointment Committee of Parliament and expressed confidence that the Committee would do a good job. She told Peace FM that the Commission had done its work to the best of its ability and will continue to fight for the protection and promotion of human rights and integrity for the country. Asked if Dr. Anane was corrupt, she explained that the Commission investigated the former Minister for Transportation based on allegations levelled against him and after the whole proceedings, it was submitted to the Attorney-General (A-G) for further action to be taken, so the A-G is the best person to say whether Dr. Anane was corrupt or not. She further explained that CHRAJ is not a court of law and does not prosecute; it investigates cases based on the facts and evidence of the matter that are brought before it. Asked if the President goofed in calling back Dr. Anane, Ms Bossman said it is up to Parliament to decide.
