The fire that engulfed a room at the 12-floor Job 600 building at the State House in Accra, has completely been doused by personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service.
Books and documents stored in the affected room were destroyed, and officials of the GNFS say they may be able to salvage a few.
It took three tenders and firemen about an hour and a half to douse the fire, which has caused the evacuation of the adjoining Parliament House.
According to the Greater Accra Regional Commander of the Fire Service, ACFO 1 Roberta Agrey Ghanson, the GNFS received a distress call at about 9:30am and it took the fire teams no more than five minutes to arrive at the scene of fire.

It was immediately unlear what caused the fire.
Speaking to the media, the Regional Commander said though the fire was under control, it was not immediately safe for occupation by workers.

She said the rooms were very smoky too, and indicated that an investigation will commence into the incident to identify the cause of the fire.

JoyNews' Parliamentary correspondent, Kwaku Asante reports that the entire building and adjoining offices were evacuated.

At the time of the evacuation, the Government Assurance Committee was meeting with the Works and Housing Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah.
