THE GENERAL Overseer of the Temple of Praise (TOP) Ministries in Sunyani, the Rev. Cobbina Osei Owusu, has been arrested for obstructing and harbouring a suspected fraudster.
The alleged fraudster was said to have defrauded some people in Takoradi in the Western Region to the tune of85 million.
Rev. Osei Owusu, who is on police enquiry bail, would be put before court for obstructing and keeping a suspected fraudster, Pastor Fred Akuamoah, head pastor of the Takoradi branch of TOP in his house in Sunyani, to prevent his arrest.
Chief Superintendent of Police, Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, said the suspect jumped bail granted him by the Takoradi Circuit Court in September last year, after Fred Andrews stood surety for him.
He said efforts to trace him to face the court proved futile and the court in Takoradi issued a bench warrant for his arrest, while the one who stood surety for him was remanded in custody by the court.
The Sunyani District Police Commander said the arresting officers made up of two civilians in Takoradi had information that the suspect had been spotted in Sunyani and proceeded to Sunyani to arrest him.
He disclosed that when the officers arrived in Sunyani they made a report to the Police and they were given four policemen to assist them to arrest the suspect.
Mr. Yohuno said the officers spotted the suspect on Monday, January 8, 2007 driving out of a house near the Sunyani Forestry School, in a white Ford car, which belonged to Rev. Osei Owusu. He was signaled to stop and he obliged.
Mr. Yohuno said when the arresting officers made an attempt to arrest him a struggle ensued, which attracted the General Overseer and George Anim, who had also been granted police enquiry bail to the scene.
