Some patients who visit the Tamale Teaching Hospital in the Northern region have opposed moves to privatize the laboratory services of the hospital.

They say if the hospital is allowed to outsource its laboratory services, it will make access to healthcare in the region very expensive.

Already healthcare services in the Upper East, Upper West, and the Northern regions are difficult to access, one patient disclosed adding the privatization will worsen the situation.

Joy News has gathered that management of the Tamale Teaching Hospital placed an advertisement in the media stating it needs interested companies to manage its laboratory services.

According to management, moves towards outsourcing of lab services was to ensure that patients who visit the hospital are able to access the services efficiently and in a friendly environment.

Sources close to Joy News have confirmed the transaction is part of a Private Public Partnership (PPP) agreement where the private company who receive the contract will ensure the efforts of hospital management are complemented leading to quality of service to its clients.

But patients visiting the hospital have described the move as unfortunate arguing it was not in the interest of them as claimed by management of the hospital.

They say if their welfare matters to the hospital, their concerns would have been sought.

They are calling on the government to stop the transaction from being carried out by officials of the hospital.
