Peace in Dagbon appears to be on hand, but just not yet.A marathon meeting in Manhyia on Friday to resolve the protracted chieftaincy dispute between the Abudus and Andanis was postponed to a later date, but with huge progress made, sources say.The Abudus 19 day programme line up to mourn and bury their late Overlord Ya-Na Abdulai Mahamadu, was with consensus, reduced to 12.However the venue and date for the burial still remains a thorny issue.Whilst the Abudus wanted the burial of their late over lord to take place at the Gbewa Palace, as Dagbon custom demands, the Andanis say, Mahamadu Abdulai did not die as the Ya- Na of Dagbon, hence, can be buried any where. This the Abudus contest.Joy news sources say, the Andanis are afraid the Abudus might enskin another regent should they have access to the palace. The three eminent Chiefs led by the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II have thus called on both sides to be patient, whilst they investigate more into the claims by both sides. This has necessitated the postponement of the meeting to allow for the eminent chiefs to decide the date and venue for the burial.Even though this meeting ended without a final decision, it is believed that it set the stage for a lasting peace accord to be reached in the subsequent meeting.Author:Nathan Gadugah
