A reporter for Accra-based Peace FM has been shot dead by unidentified persons at Kwapong in the Brong Ahafo Region.
The reporter, named only as King George, was shot at close range by suspected armed robbers who thought he was a cocoa purchaser who had earlier exited a bank with cash.
King George who also worked for Success FM in the Brong Ahafo Region was returning from Sankore at 3:00pm Thursday when he met his untimely death.
He had been following up on grievances reported by some cocoa farmers over stolen fertilizers, reports indicate.
General Manager of Success FM, Asafo Adjei, told Joy News Friday that police said their intelligence show King George was trailed from Sankore until he dismounted his motorbike at Goaso to board a vehicle to complete his journey.
King George was shot at close range.
“The wound on his upper arm was very very big,” observed Asafo Adjei when he went to the Goaso Government Hospital to identify the body of his employee.
Police say they are investigating the incident.
Just last month Kwapong made the news when residents clashed with police for refusing to hand over a murder suspect.
Three people died in that clash.
The angry youth vandalised police properties and drove them out of the town.
