The Ghana Government Pensioners Association in the Suhum Kraboa Coaltar District on Thursday expressed worry about the failure of the Controller and Accountant General's Department to pay their 50 percent minimum pension adjustment since October last year.
The District Chairman of the Association, Mr Felix Duah, said at the annual end-of-year- get-together for members of the association at Suhum at the weekend that attempts by members to have their money paid to them had failed.
He alleged that some members of the association in other districts received their money "after bribing some officials of the Controller and Accountant General Department".
Mr Duah said anytime members went to the office to enquire about the money they were asked to come later and that as pensioners the little pension received at the end of the month had to be spent on transportation.
He said members would take to the streets to show their displeasure about what was happening if by the end of the month their monies were not paid to them.
Mr Duah said even though the government was doing everything possible to improve the living standard of pensioners, some officials of the Controller and Accountant General Department were thwarting that effort.Source: GNA
