Government is considering introducing an new Pensions Scheme specially tailored to meet the needs of Pensioners above the age of 65.This would add to the current 3-Tier Pensions Scheme which excluded persons of and above 55 years when introduced in 2008.Vice President Kwesi Amissah Arthur who made the revelation at the TUC’s delegate’s conference said this reaffirms government’s commitment to the social security needs of workers.
“Over the past three and half years, the establishment of a solid social protection system for the working class has been a core concern to government and we need to intensify this" he noted.Beyond this, the Ministry of Employment and Social Welfare is currently exploring the possibility of instituting a social pensions for all persons above 65 years with no productive capacity” he added.
