Pharmatrust Company, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility amid the spread of the Coronavirus, has donated sanitary products to the Pharmacy Council. 

CEO of Pharmatrust Company, Anthony Kwame Adjepong stated the donation heeds to calls on the private sector to intensify participation in the fight against the spread of the Coronavirus in Ghana.

“We have seen the damage that the Coronavirus is having across the world. Here in Ghana, the government is doing all it can to contain and prevent the virus from spreading. One essential commodity checking the spread of the virus has been hand sanitizers. We believe this donation will go a long way to assist the Pharmacy Council,” he stated.

Items received include Veronica Buckets and quantities of alcohol-based hand sanitizers averaging GH₵10,000. Receiving the items, Registrar of the Pharmacy Council, Dr Audu Rauf admitted that the world today is facing new realities and disruption for healthcare professionals worldwide as a result of COVID 19.

He said the world more than ever is in dire need of creative and inventive minds and international cooperation to address this novel pandemic.

“Obviously, the novel SARS CoV-2 which is causing the disease termed as COVID 19 is putting unprecedented pressure on social, health and economic systems across the globe. Therefore this gesture has really come at an opportune time to respond favourably to the tall list of requests on Pharmacy Council,” he told Joy Business.

Meanwhile, the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has cautioned manufacturers, importers, distributors and retailers of products used in the prevention of the spread of COVID-19 pandemic against offering for sale substandard products.

It has also cautioned them against taking advantage of the prevailing situation of offering substandard hand sanitizers, face masks and other products used in the prevention of COVID-19.

A statement signed by Chief Executive Officer of FDA, Delese A. A. Darko, in Accra further asked the public to ensure that all sanitizers purchased were duly registered by the Authority and they have not expired.

FDA assured the public that it was facilitating the registration of more hand sanitizers with a fast track process, to mitigate the shortage on the market.

The authority said it has uploaded on its website and other social media handles of approved sanitizers and the same would be periodically updated as more hand sanitizers were registered by the authority.
