The year 2020 may be only two days old, but it has already started on a good note for two boys who underwent surgery to correct complex spine deformities.
Fifteen-year-old Charles Nii and 11-year-old Bismarck Tevor, who had been discharged from the FOCOS Orthopedic Hospital after their successful surgeries, still had huge medical bills to settle.
Nii had earlier seen a substantial fraction of the cost of his successful surgery defrayed by members of Controller and Accountant General’s Department’s staff directorate and MMDA staff of the Greater Accra Region among other donors.
But OBZ Group and ODULAIR Ghana Limited on December 31, 2019, came to the boys’ rescue.
As part of activities to climax 2019, philanthropist and CEO of the Group, Ernest Domie presented a cheque of GH¢20,000 to clear some of the bills.
Charles Nii no longer owes any outstanding debt to the medical facility, thanks to the benevolence of Mr Domie.
Bismarck Tevor, the second patient who had been cured of kyphosis [an abnormally excessive convex curvature of the spine] at the FOCOS Orthopedic Hospital, had GH¢10,000 out of his outstanding GH¢40,000 bill cleared.
The philanthropist, Mr Domie, after the presentation said: “This is how I want to start the year because I knew they had some bills to pay. So I am only here to give both patients GH¢10,000 each to help clear their bill.”
Mother of Nii, Sophie Boakye-Acheampong, was excited about the donation.
“I am so blessed today. Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra was here to witness this kind gesture from Mr Ernest... Thankfully the surgery has been done and I do not owe FOCOS,” Mrs Boakye-Acheampong said, beaming with smiles.
Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra, Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie appreciated the effort of Ernest Domie while calling on others to emulate the act.
“There is no better message than this, that we all go out and show love and compassion to the needy, sick and neglected”, he said.
Meanwhile, the other beneficiary Ernest Domie’s gesture, Bismark Tevor still has an outstanding GH¢30,000 waiting to be cleared.
