A fast piling plastic waste in the Asylum Down main drainage is waiting to float once the rains hit the capital.

The drainage, which passes through Nima, Ring Road, and links Asylum Down to the Odaw River was trending when videos of plastic waste floating in huge quantities hit social media.

The pile which was characterised by used plastic bottles, packs, and plastic bags left residents and Ghanaians in shock.

However, a visit to the communities along the drainage by Myjoyonline.com’s photojournalist David Andoh revealed some portions of the drainage are still filled with plastic waste.

This was after the Works and Housing Minister, Samuel Atta Akyea denied the pictures and videos saying it was only propaganda by detractors.

He also accused members of the opposition party of playing politic with the situation and subsequently ordered for the drains to be dredged.
