Traders at the popular Kantamanto Market in Accra are left to pick up the pieces of their wares after a devastating fire ravaged over 100 shops, destroying the source of livelihood for many people.
The blaze, which began at dawn on Thursday, January 2, engulfed large sections of the market, leaving traders to salvage whatever goods they could from the wreckage.

Photos from the scene show the devastation, with traders sifting through debris, assessing the damage, and wailing.
Firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service were quick to respond, but the lack of available fire hydrants and depleted water supplies allowed the fire to spread rapidly.

Despite their best efforts, large sections of the market were consumed by the flames, and eyewitnesses recall the helplessness as the situation escalated.
Fortunately, no casualties have been reported, but the damage to the market is substantial. Traders and residents are now left to rebuild what was lost, hoping for support to recover from the disaster.
