The Challenge Entrepreneurship and Corporate Network (CECON) Organisation, an NGO made of victims of road accidents, is calling for the allocation of the tollbooths for the employment of physically challenged.
According to CECON, manning the tollbooths requires little movement and application of force, which perfectly suits them.
A statement issued by CECON noted that as a result of their disabilities, most of the victims of these otherwise preventable accidents become limited in their physical capabilities - are unable to accomplish what their body was able to do hitherto.
President of the group Nicholas Nimo tells Asempa News in an interview that most of them are left to their own fate to struggle in life; low standard of living, unemployment, illiteracy and other negative cut-calls are associated with them.
Mr. Nimo therefore called on the Government, the Disability Council to act accordingly and make the necessary appeals and negotiations on their behalf, which would be for the interest of the entire society.
Meanwhile, the chairman of the National Disability Council, Mr. Andrew Okaikoi has lauded the initiative saying it is a step in the right direction. He said such initiative, among others will help address disability issues.
Mr. Okaikoi disclosed that his outfit has already presented a proposal to the Ministries of Transport, Roads and Highways and negotiations are ongoing to ensure the success of the initiative.
He further assured that his outfit in collaboration with the ministries involved will put in place measures to help improve the living standard of the disabled.
