Three leading members of the People's National Convention have dragged the leader of the party, Dr. Edward Mahama to court for continuously holding himself out as leader of the party.
The plaintiffs say he no longer qualifies to contest any presidential election on the ticket of the party and so want the court to declare Dr. Mahama ineligible.
Dr. Mahama contested the 1996, 2000 and 2004 presidential elections on the ticket of the PNC and lost all.
Messrs E.A. Halm Quartey, the PNC’s Accra Regional Chairman, and Ahmed Agali (Djato), founding member and member of the standing committee and Joseph Kwabena Aidoo, also a member of the standing committee, are the plaintiffs who are therefore seeking a perpetual injunction from the court to restrain him from contesting on the ticket of the party again and from operating a bank account of the bank.
Dr. Mahama has refrained from commenting on the case and has also maintained silence over his presidential ambitions, if any.
