The National Executive of the Peoples National Convention (PNC) on Wednesday paid a courtesy call on the Editor of the Ghanaian Times, Adjoa Yeboah-Afari.
The delegation, led by the flag bearer of the party, Dr. Edward Mahama, included the National Chairman, Alhaji Raman Ramadan; the General Secretary, Bernard Morna, former General Secretary, Gabriel Pwamang and National Women's Organiser, Hajara M. Ali.
The visit, besides acquainting the delegates with the operations of the New Times Corporation, was also to introduce the leadership of the party to the editor and her staff.
Dr. Mahama, in an interaction urged the media to assist those who had offered themselves to contribute their quota to national development.
The three-time flag bearer of the party said the PNC was interested in addressing issues and programmes stressing that it was only when such issues were publicised and thoroughly discussed by the public that they would be supported.
The National Women's Organiser of the party, Hajara Ali, stressed the need for cooperation between the media and the party.
She called for impartiality in media reportage during the electioneering campaign.
The National Party Chairman, Alhaji Ramadan, was unhappy about the level of publicity especially by the state-owned media to the party's activities.
He explained it was for that reason that the leadership of the party had embarked on a tour of media houses to discuss ways of improving ties between the party and the media.
Ms Yeboah-Afari assured the party of the paper's impartiality in its reportage at all times.
She said what the PNC needed to do was to inform the paper's news desk of its programmes by either faxing or e-mailing its statements to the paper.
The Editor was emphatic that if there was any newspaper that could boast of impartiality, it was the Ghanaian Times.
Ms. Yeboah Afari commended the party for the visit and said: "If you invite us to your programmes we will be there, and if you send releases to us, we will surely use them."
