Bernard Mornah, the leader of the People’s National Convention (PNC) at the weekend, lauded President John Dramani Mahama’s performance in government so far.
He mentioned particularly the stabilising and appreciating the Ghana Cedi against major international currencies.
Mr Mornah said: “The stabilisation of the cedi and decline in inflation figures have translated into a marginal reduction in the prices of food items.”
He added: “We support a change in government. The Election 2024 President John Mahama has not failed the nation,”.
Mr Mornah gave the commendation when interacting with the media on the sidelines of the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the PNC held at Abesim, near Sunyani.
Attended by national and regional executives of the party, the NEC meeting, the second-highest decision-making body of the PNC offered a common platform for the party to identify and proffer realistic solutions to emerging challenges confronting the party.
Mr Mornah indicated that President Mahama’s led government had performed creditably in transforming the economic fortunes of the nation and thereby bettering the socio-economic livelihoods of the ordinary citizenry.
Notwithstanding, he added that a PNC government would have performed better if Ghanaians had allowed the party to be in government in Ghana’s Election 2024.
He said presently the PNC was re-strategising and considering the possibility of merging with other Nkrumahist political parties so that together they could make meaningful impacts and thereby win political power in the Election 2028.
Mr Mornah said the party expected that the government would take over about 50 per cent shares of all foreign companies in its efforts to turn around the nation’s economic prospects, build and strengthen resilience and stabilise the economy.
Mr Sampson Asaki Awimgobet, the National Chairman of the PNC, urged the various regional and constituency executives to work tirelessly to make the PNC more attractive at the grassroots levels.
