Regional Chairmen of the Peoples' National Convention (PNC) on Wednesday endorsed the Interim Management Committee (IMC) led by Mr Basili Waisai that had assumed leadership of the party.
The seven-member IMC mandated to organise a National Congress this year, has been increased to 13 to include some regional chairpersons and interest groups.
A statement signed by Mr Wasai, Interim Chairman and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra stated: "We the Elders, Regional Chairpersons, Stakeholders and Party members, at a National Consultative Meeting held in Accra on Tuesday, January 3, 2011 endorse the IMC.
"In addition, we do hereby resolve that an IMC comprising 13 members be set up to run the affairs of the party and prepare it for an early congress".
The other members are Mallam Ahmed Agadi Jato, Member of the Council of Elders and now Deputy Chairperson; Mr Thomas Akunyon, Ashanti Regional Chairman Deputy IMC Vicechairpeson; Dr Somtim Tobiga, Former National Treasurer, Spokesman; Dr G. D. Bainge, Upper West Regional Chairman, and Member of Council of Elders.
The rest are, Alhaji Mohammed Abase, Central Regional Chairman, Mr Halm Quartey, Greater Accra Regional Chairman, Mr David Apasera, Former PNC Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga and National Treasurer, Ms Seidu Zalia, Former Deputy National Youth Organiser.
The remaining members are, Mr John Akugre, a representative of the Eastern Regional Chairman, Mr Kurbu Kondoro, Alhaji Issa Abdulrahaman and Mallam Yakubu Tahiru all leading members of the party.
Dr Tobiga inaugurating the IMC on December 30, 2010 told the GNA that other interest groups would be consulted and informed of the take over and establishment of the IMC, its mandate and agenda for revitalisation of the party.
He said prior to the inauguration, leading members of the party had written to the defunct leadership and Council of Elders and other prominent members drawing their attention to the breach of the party's constitution and the need to form an IMC.
Dr Tobiga accused some members of the defunct leadership of the party of using their positions to protect other political interests instead of championing the cause of the PNC.
"They are members of PNC in name but by their deeds and pronouncement, they belong to other political interest, using PNC just to project for their financial gains," he alleged.
He appealed to all party members to remain loyal and support the crusade for revamping the party as a third force in Ghana's democratic political dispensation.Source: GNA
