Police have arrested two people over Saturday’s galamsey deaths in Mpohor Wassa in the Western region.
Four women and one male were trapped to death when a pit collapsed on them during their operations on Saturday.
Two others are said to be in critical conditions at the Effia Nkwanta Hospital.
Western Regional correspondent Kweku Owusu Peprah that the two were arrested because, the police say they failed to follow the right safety procedures in operating the small scale mine.
He said the police are going to carry out further investigations into the accident with the help of those arrested.
Meanwhile Dr. Amihere of the Effia Nkwanta Hospital where four of the survivors were sent to, has confirmed that none of those brought to the hospital passed away as is being rumoured.
He said two of the survivors sustained severe injuries and were therefore admitted for further examination but the other two were treated and discharged.
According to Kweku Owusu Peprah, community leaders in Mpohor Wassa area are still searching for some survivors from the rubble.
