Police in Accra have arrested a man who allegedly duped hundreds of people on the pretext of recruiting them into the Police and the Armed Forces.
Clement Tamakloe, 60, was picked up by police after several of his victims reported the scam to police.
Accra Police PRO ASP Afia Tenge confirmed the arrest to Joy News.
She said a number of the victims reported the case to the police who immediately acted and arrested the suspect.
According to her, the police found security accoutrement, handcuffs, toy pistols, military uniforms, police and military recruitment forms, all in his possession.
"He is presently in our custody and assisting police in investigations. We are yet to ascertain whether he was a military officer who is on retirement," she said.
Meanwhile the police is warning members of the public seeking recruitment into the security services not to rely on middlemen.
"The police [service] does not outsource its recruitment exercise to individuals, organizations or liaisons. So people who easily fall for these recruitment frauds do so at their own risk," she warned.
