Police have arrested a suspect for allegedly threatening an Uber driver with a replica pistol following a misunderstanding over transport fare at Aplaku.
The suspect, identified as Jeffrey Selasi Johnson Edze, 32, has been cautioned and detained while Police retain the exhibit for evidential purposes as preparations are made to arraign him.
A statement signed by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs for the Accra Region, said the incident was reported on March 2, 2026, by an Uber driver who resided at Official Town, Odorkor.
It said the suspect, a digital marketer on social media platforms, hired the complainant from Weija China Mall to his residence at Aplaku.
During the journey, the suspect requested that the driver stop around the Weija SCC area to enable him to buy food, which reportedly led to a delay and a misunderstanding between the two over the transport fare.
The statement said upon reaching the suspect’s residence at Aplaku, he allegedly refused to pay the fare after alighting from the vehicle.
The suspect then reportedly rushed into his room and returned with a replica Beretta toy pistol, which he used to threaten the driver.
The complainant immediately alerted the police, and a patrol team swiftly responded to the scene and arrested the suspect.
A search conducted in the suspect’s room led to the retrieval of the toy sidearm used in the alleged threat.
The Accra Regional Police Command cautioned the public against resorting to threats or acts of intimidation during disagreements, noting that such conduct could escalate situations and constitute criminal offences under Ghanaian law.
The Command further advised that the use of toy guns or imitation weapons to threaten or intimidate others was unlawful and warned that persons found engaging in such acts would be arrested and prosecuted.
