The Northern Regional Police Command has arrested three people suspected to be part of the NDC foot soldiers demanding the removal of the Mamprusi West District Chief Executive Laud Sulley Abudu Zakaria’s from office.
Mr. Laud Sulley Abudu Zakaria on January 5, 2011, escaped from being lynched by some angry supporters of NDC who went on a demonstration calling for his immediate removal.
The angry NDC activists, who were wielding sharp instruments and clubs numbering about 500 alongside some leading members, including constituency executives of the party, matched to the office of the West Mamprusi District Assembly with the intention of forcing their way into the office of the DCE.
The constituency executives also threatened to withdraw their services to the party if the DCE is not fired.
Speaking on Citi FM Monday, the Public Relation Officer for the Northern Regional Police Command, Emmanuel Tetteh said the three suspects Haruna Abdul Raman, Abdulai Yakubu and Abdulai Sulemana were arrested Monday dawn.
He added that “criminal issue have no time bound. When a person commits an offence several years; when evidence and other things crop up, the person can be rearrested. Anybody who has any connection with this particular incident, if and as and when we have credible, reliable and intelligent information, that person is going to be arrested”.
With the intervention of the Upper East Regional Minister, Mark Woyongo, police escort was provided for Mr. Abudu Zakaria as he resumed work on Monday.
The police have therefore warned that any youth group which attempt to prevent the escort of the DCE to his office would be severely dealt with according to the laws of the land.
But the General Secretary of NDC in the district, Moses Sampa has said the youth will not hesitate to be violent in their quest to oppose the DCE presence in the district.
