The Ghana Police Service has arrested three suspects believed to be part of a syndicate that uses taxi cabs to steal mobile phones and other valuables from unsuspecting passengers.
The suspects — Sasu Lawrence, also known as Agbe, Richard Osei, and Charles Kofi Nti, also known as Survivor — were picked up on January 12, 2026, following an intelligence-led operation.

According to the police, preliminary investigations suggest that the group operates mainly in the early hours of the day, posing as commercial taxi drivers in search of passengers.
Two of the suspects reportedly occupy the front seats of the vehicle, while the third sits in the back. Once a victim—mostly women—boards the taxi, the doors are allegedly locked deliberately to prevent the person from alighting.
Police say the suspect, seated at the back, then pretends to assist the victim in opening the door but uses the opportunity to steal mobile phones, wallets, or other valuables.
“The suspects deliberately lock the doors to make it difficult for victims to alight. While pretending to help, they steal personal belongings,” a police source disclosed.
The suspects are currently in police custody and assisting with ongoing investigations.
Meanwhile, the police say efforts are underway to trace and arrest other accomplices, particularly those who receive and trade in the stolen items.
The Police Service has cautioned the public, especially early morning commuters, to remain vigilant when boarding commercial vehicles and to report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.
