The Ghana Police Service has arrested two suspects in connection with a viral TikTok video in which an individual allegedly threatens to kill President John Mahama before the end of 2025 and behead First Lady Lordina Mahama.
The law enforcement body has further launched a full-scale investigation into the threats to the life of the sitting president and his family.
The police announced today, Tuesday, August 12, that the two suspects, identified as Prince Ofori and Yayra Abiwu, were in custody and are assisting with the ongoing investigation.
The viral clip, which has been circulating widely on social media, contains explicit threats in the Twi language by a female.
The Ghana Police Service confirmed that while these two individuals have been detained, efforts are underway to identify and apprehend other persons believed to be connected to the video to assist with their inquiries.
The public is urged to remain calm and allow the police to conduct their investigation without interference.
This incident has prompted serious concerns about the misuse of social media platforms for incitement and making threats against high-profile individuals.
The police have stressed their commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety of all citizens, including the president and his family.
The outcome of the investigation is expected to be made public in the coming days.
