Kofi Asare, a 42- year old farmer has been arrested by Tarkwa police for his involvement in the murder of Yaro Tingbag Bugure, 55, alias Aban, at Dirouyoso Kekina, near Akotom in the Wassa West District.
Supt. Slim Opoku Manford, Tarkwa District Police Commander the Ghana News Agency (GNA) here said, on Tuesday January 19 2007, Asare who is a friend of the deceased went to him to collect GH¢ 10 worth of cassava he (Asare) had already paid for.
He said when the suspect, Asare, got to the cottage, he met Yaro drunk and was lying on dried cocoa leaves in a cocoa farm.
Supt. Manford said Asare demanded his cassava from Yaro but he told Asare to go and uproot the cassava from his farm nearby.
There was no cassava on the farm and the suspect returned to Yaro without cassava and this resulted in a quarrel between them.
Information gathered revealed that the suspect not satisfied started beating Yaro with the side of his cutlass and witnesses at the scene advised the suspect to stop because he (Yaro) was drunk.
The following morning, Yaro was found dead in his cottage where he stayed alone. A report was made to the Tarkwa Police by the Unit Committee Chairman of Akotom and the suspect was arrested.
Supt. Stim Opku Manfored said suspect was helping Police in investigation.
