The Ghana Police Service has established a special Marine Unit to protect the oil fields.
The Head of Police Public Affairs, Superintendent Kwasi Ofori told Joy News the unit will work with other security agencies to tackle any challenges that may threaten oil production.
He said the team was determined to fashion out a holistic framework of security network aimed at giving maximum security protection to the offshore and onshore infrastructural facilities as well as protecting all other people who may have something to do with the oil.
According to him a new divisional headquarters will be created at Half Assini in the Western Region to oversee special operations.
