The Police have deployed more personnel to Apesokubi in the Biakoye district of the Volta region to prevent the escalation of chieftaincy clashes that left one person dead.
The son of the paramount chief of Akporsor, Nicolas Anny was shot and killed and the chief himself Nana Okiti-kpo III sustained gunshot wounds in front of his palace.
Earlier reports Friday said residents were fleeing the area but Joy News sources say a police-military contingent has restored calm in the community.
The DCE for the area, Louis Akata blamed the violence on negligence by the police, but the Hohoe Divisional commander, ACP Emmanuel Appiah told Joy News the DCE has rather taken sides in the matter.
According to him, the people came to inform him about going ahead to organize a festival but he advised them against organizing the festival.
He claimed the organization of the festival has been the harbinger of bloodshed in the neighbourhood and had resisted the organization of the festival.
He accused the DCE of siding with one of the factions to organize the festival and that he said was the reason for the recent clashes.
He said the DCE came with one of the factions instead of the two factions with the hope of celebrating the festival but he invoked the public order law to prevent them from organizing the festival.
Meanwhile the paramount chief Nana Okiti-kpo III has been narrating his ordeal to Joy News Agbeko Ben Coffie.
According to him, a car parked in front of his house was set ablaze around 2:00 am and when they decided to put out the fire the gun shots started blaring.
He sustained some gun shot wounds but is responding to treatment.
