The Ghana Police Service has conducted three intelligence-led operations in the Oti Region, intercepting 1,696 compressed parcels of substances, suspected to be narcotics and arresting seven individuals.
A Police statement signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) John Nchor, the Public Affairs Officer of the Oti Regional Command, indicated that on February 13, a Police team nabbed a Hyundai Atos Taxi with the registration number VR188-16 on the Lekanti Kute road.
The statement said a search was conducted and uncovered 48 parcels of suspected Indian hemp.
It said the driver, Emmanuel Yao, 40, and his mate, Felix Emulator, were arrested.
The statement again said on February 14, acting on intelligence, officers raided a location in Tsikata near Ahamansu, where 166 compressed parcels wrapped in yellow masking tape were found in three bags and three sacks.
The statement said three suspects were arrested immediately, but the fourth suspect, Korsi Akpavi, escaped.
The release revealed that on February 15, a Benz cargo truck with registration number GS3831-09, driven by Justice Nelson Amrado with passenger Yussif Onaneye, 25 years old, was intercepted at Bodada.
The statement, however, disclosed that a hidden, modified compartment had been opened, revealing 1,482 parcels of suspected Indian hemp.
The police statement explained that after discovering the items, Amrado attempted to bribe officers with GH¢80,000, but the offer was rejected.
The Police hierarchy in the Oti Region is pursuing Korsi Akpavi and has urged the public to provide information that would aid crime prevention in the area.
