The Ghana Police Service has successfully foiled a planned armed robbery targeting a gold consignment worth over GH¢1.3 million.
In an intelligence-led operation, three suspects—Adams Zibo, Massawud Yussif, and Kenneth Khartey—were apprehended on Thursday, 26th June 2025, along the Accra–Akuapem–Mamfe road as they attempted to execute the heist.
The Police revealed that the operation was initiated by the Special Support Unit (SSU) at the National Headquarters on Wednesday, June 25, after intelligence indicated that a gold dealer’s driver and a man posing as his bodyguard had conspired to rob the dealer during a scheduled delivery the following day.

“Our intelligence gathering indicated there was a coordinated attempt to divert and steal a significant gold consignment, and swift action was necessary,” the police said in a statement.

Kenneth Khartey was first arrested near Akuapem–Mamfe while trailing a Land Cruiser transporting the gold on a motorbike. Later that day, Adams Zibo and Massawud Yussif were picked up at East Legon in an unregistered blue Hyundai vehicle.
Investigations have since confirmed that the suspects had procured firearms, motorbikes, and a getaway vehicle in preparation for the robbery, and were to be responsible for disposing of the stolen gold.

Fortunately, the gold dealer was rescued unscathed, and the consignment—estimated to weigh 1.2 kilograms and valued at GH¢1,350,343.53—was safely recovered.
The suspects are currently in police custody assisting with further investigations and will be arraigned before court in due course.
“This operation underscores our commitment to combating organised crime and ensuring public safety,” the Police said.
