Police in Tamale have arrested three people alleged to be dealing in fake currency.
The Northern Regional Police public relations officer Chief Inspector Ebenezer Tetteh narrated how the three were arrested to our correspondent, Mahama Shaibu.
He said the police acting on a tip-off, arrested one Agoma Solomon around the Tamale Polytechnic area.
Chief Inspector Tetteh said a search on the suspect revealed an amount of GH¢510 in fake currency.
Upon interrogation, Solomon named other people who were also picked up by the police who were also carrying money suspected to be fake Ghana Cedis.
The Police PRO said investigations so far indicate Solomon is in the business of printing fake currencies which he distributes in and around Techiman and Kumasi.
Three of the suspects were put before court and two – Solomon and Peter Anaab – pleaded guilty to the charge of possessing fake currency but a third suspect, a lady, pleaded not guilty.
The two who pleaded guilty to the charges, according to the police officer, will be sentenced on January 11, 2011.
All three suspects are currently on remand in prison custody.
