The Tema Regional Police Command has launched a manhunt for a group of armed robbers who shot and killed a 68-year-old during an attack at a drinking spot opposite the Tema Community 9 Cemetery on Friday, November 7.
According to a statement issued by the head of Public Affairs ASP Dede Dzakpasu, preliminary investigations indicate that the victim was sitting with several others when six young men arrived at the venue on two motorbikes.
“Two of the assailants approached the group, and one of them snatched the victim’s mobile phone from the table. When the victim attempted to retrieve his phone, one of the suspects shot, and the gang fled the scene on their motorbikes,” the police said.
The victim was rushed to the Tema General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. A 9mm spent shell was recovered from the scene and has been processed for evidential purposes.
Police confirmed that witnesses present at the time of the incident have been interviewed to assist with the ongoing investigation.
The service stated that a full-scale operation has been launched to track down those responsible.
“The Tema Regional Police Command has launched a full-scale operation to track down the perpetrators,” the statement read.
“Efforts are ongoing to contact the British Embassy to officially notify them of the death of their national. The Command assures the public that every effort is being made to arrest the suspects and bring them to justice.”
