Police in the Eastern Region are hunting for the self-styled pastor who forced some teenage girls at Bomase in the Upper Manya district to drop out of school after he declared them witches.
The girls have been accused of among others killing residents in the districts.
The pastor – a young man in his twenties – forced some of these girls, mostly between the ages of 12 and 14 to drop out of school with the promise of exorcising them of their witchcraft.
Eastern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Yaw Nketia-Yeboah told Joy News that initial investigations have shown that the self-styled pastor went into hiding since Joy FM aired the news about his activities in the district.
He said the head of the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) has been asked to investigate the case as well.
“As I am speaking to you the Eastern Regional DOVVSU coordinator and my deputy are going there to meet with the district commander to strategise."
He added the police believe that the self-styled pastor may be hiding in a nearby village and appealed to opinion leaders and residents to inform the police as soon as they get wind of his whereabouts.
Meanwhile, chief of the area Nana Djaaseste Lartey Djagbatey says residents have also been charged to look for the man.
“I have told my people and the opinion leaders to go and look for the pastor. They will be doing that from today until Friday”, he said.
