Security analyst Prosper Nii Addo suspects police complicity in the weekend’s fraudulent police recruitment exercise.
He is therefore advising that the police administration begin enquiries into the fraud from within the service to root out insiders collaborating with the fraudsters.
Nii Addo told Joy News the need for a comprehensive look into the issue stems from previous robbery and other criminal activities where the criminals are found to be using accoutrements supplied by security personnel.
With the forgery of a top police officer’s signature on the fake recruitment letters, he said those arrested could be fronting for powerful police officers.
“I would not be surprised to hear some key names” mentioned by those apprehended, he said.
Prosper Nii Addo also believes the police should not be left alone to investigate the fraudulent exercise, suggesting that the Parliamentary Select Committee on Defence and Interior should be involved at key stages of the investigation.
For the sake of the police administration’s own image, the security analyst said any investigations should be targeted at weeding out the bad nuts within the service as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, the ranking member of the Defence and Interior Committee of Parliament, Major (rtd) Derrick Oduro told Joy News the involvement of some police officers cannot be ruled out.
However, he said the committee expressed confidence that the police administration will not shield any officer found to be involved in the fraudulent recruitment exercise.
So far about 14 people have been arrested in connection with the fraudulent exercise.
