A police officer has been shot and killed by suspected armed robbers at Weija in Accra.
Constable Charles Akatta, said to be in his late 30’s, sustained gunshot wounds during a shootout with the gang of robbers.
The incident occurred at around 12am Wednesday morning near the West Hills mall.
He was rushed to the hospital but died shortly. His body has been deposited at the Police Hospital morgue.
Brother of the deceased, Dominic Akatta expressed shock at the incident.
He disclosed that Constable Charles Akatta got married not too long ago.
Dominic Akatta called on the police administration to bring the culprits to book.
Meanwhile, Greater Accra Regional Police Commander DCOP Christian Tetteh Yohunu says two of the robbers died during the shootout.
He indicated that six others were subsequently arrested but four of the gang members have escaped with gunshot wounds.
DCOP Tetteh Yohunu said the police will do everything possible to arrest the four to face the full rigours of the law.
